Cass County (trfnews.i234.me) — A Cass Lake woman faces a felony drug sale charge. Prosecutors say the deal happened at a Minneapolis transit stop.
Jessica Mae Brunelle, 22, of Cass Lake, is charged with one count. The count is 3rd Degree Drug Sale – Narcotic (Minn. Stat. § 152.023, subd. 1(1)).
What happened
According to the criminal complaint, the incident happened on January 26, 2026. It was about 4:35 p.m.
Police were watching surveillance cameras at the Lagoon and Hennepin Avenue BRT stop in Minneapolis. Investigators say they saw Brunelle meet another woman.
The other woman was identified as Savannah Freeman, according to the complaint. Police say the two appeared to talk and then began a brief exchange.
Investigators say Brunelle opened a container and removed a substance. Police say she placed the substance onto a yellow Post-it note.

Phone payment alleged
Police say both women then used their phones. Investigators believe the payment was made using Cash App.
Prosecutors allege Brunelle then handed the Post-it note to Freeman. Officers moved in and detained both women, court papers say.
Freeman told officers she paid $15, according to the complaint. She turned over the Post-it note, the filing states.
Police also searched Brunelle, according to the complaint. Prosecutors allege officers found a container and a cell phone.
The container held about 0.1 grams of white powder, the complaint says. While officers had the phone, a Cash App notification appeared, police say.
The message read: “Savannah Freeman sent $15 for fun.” The complaint lists the alert as part of the evidence.
Test results
Police say field tests were positive for fentanyl. The complaint says tests were done on the powder tied to both women.
The substance is still described as “suspected” fentanyl in the filing. Further lab testing was not detailed in the summary provided.
Court and release terms
Bail was set at $0 with conditions, according to court records. Judge Luis Bartolomei ordered release under RPR terms.
Under those terms, Brunelle must remain law-abiding and make all future court appearances. The court also set an alternative option.
That alternative bail was $10,000 without conditions, according to the filing. The complaint was signed by Judge Gina Brandt on January 28, 2026.
Brunelle is presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
