Cass Lake, MN (trfnews.i234.me) – A Cass Lake woman is facing felony assault and misdemeanor fleeing charges after allegedly attacking her sister with a rake and then evading law enforcement officers by fleeing into the woods.

According to a criminal complaint filed in Cass County District Court, Mandi Miracle Thunderhawk (DOB: 07/26/1996) is accused of striking her sister, NRS, multiple times in the head and on the body with a metal rake during a violent confrontation on June 16, 2025. The incident occurred at a residence on Ma Ingan Wolf Road in Cass Lake.

Officer Hellkamp with the Leech Lake Tribal Police responded to the scene and observed visible injuries on NRS, including a bleeding gash on her head, bruises on her arms, and a wounded, possibly broken toe.

Following the assault, Thunderhawk reportedly fled into a wooded area near the home. Officer Stein later spotted her in a neighbor’s driveway, but she fled again upon seeing his squad car. Despite multiple attempts, officers were initially unable to apprehend her due to dense woods and an aggressive dog in the area.

On June 17, Thunderhawk was located and arrested during an unrelated police call on Kappes Lane in Cass Lake. In a post-arrest statement, she admitted to hitting her sister with the rake but claimed she was acting in retaliation after being struck first.

Thunderhawk is facing the following charges:

  • Count I: Second-Degree Assault With a Dangerous Weapon (Felony – up to 7 years and/or $14,000 fine)

  • Count II: Fleeing a Peace Officer on Foot (Misdemeanor – up to 90 days and/or $1,000 fine)
