Cass Lake Man Charged with Second-Degree Murder in Puposky Incident

Beltrami County, MN (trfnews.i234.me) – On May 21, 2021, at approximately 2:00 AM, Beltrami County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a reported assault at a residence on the 1000 block of Durand Drive NW in Puposky, Minnesota. Upon arrival, deputies observed Scott Schulman, a 21-year-old male from Cass Lake, outside the residence holding a piece of lumber. Schulman attempted to flee but was apprehended after tripping over a barbed wire fence.

Inside the attached garage of the residence, deputies discovered the body of 53-year-old Burgess Palmore of Bloomington, Minnesota, lying in a pool of blood. The Midwest Medical Examiner’s Office later determined that Palmore died from blunt force trauma to the head, classifying the death as a homicide.

Schulman was taken into custody and charged with second-degree intentional murder under Minnesota Statute 609.19, Subdivision 1(1), which pertains to causing the death of a human being with intent to effect the death of that person or another, but without premeditation. This offense carries a maximum sentence of 40 years imprisonment.

In addition to the murder charge, Schulman faces a fourth-degree assault charge for allegedly kicking a deputy during the arrest process. At the time of his arrest, Schulman was on probation for prior offenses, including third-degree assault and burglary.

As of the latest available information, Schulman remains in custody at the Beltrami County Jail without bail, pending further court proceedings in Beltrami County District Court.
