CASS COUNTY, N.D. (trfnews.i234.me) – A rural Cass County woman experienced a frightening early morning incident when she found a man standing in her kitchen at about 5 a.m. on November 15.

According to court documents, the homeowner walked into her kitchen and saw a man later identified as Craig A. Vinton of Portland, North Dakota. She immediately told him, “This is not your house, and you need to leave immediately.”

Vinton reportedly refused and told the woman, “No, I have friends here.” The woman replied that he did not and again told him to leave. She said it was 5 a.m. and demanded that he get out of her kitchen “right now.”

According to the complaint, Vinton then slowly walked out of the kitchen. He eventually left the home on foot. The woman contacted authorities right away.

Deputies from the Cass County Sheriff’s Office soon located Vinton. During their investigation, officers discovered that he had been driving a stolen vehicle. He was arrested shortly thereafter.

Vinton now faces several charges, including felony burglary and felony theft of property. He was also charged with misdemeanor possession of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia.

Burglary cases in North Dakota can result in significant penalties, including prison time and supervised probation if a suspect is convicted. Court records do not yet show a scheduled court date for Vinton.

Information about North Dakota burglary laws and victim resources is available through the North Dakota Attorney General’s Office at attorneygeneral.nd.gov.
