Cass County (trfnews.i234.me) — A woman is facing a serious felony charge after police say she threatened a man with a knife during a heated confrontation.
According to court documents, the incident happened when 34-year-old Hannah Blankenship allegedly took a gray folding knife from a kitchen counter. The male victim told police she dragged the knife across her own throat in a cutting motion before approaching him with it raised over her head.
The victim said he was backed against a wall while Blankenship stood within a foot of him, moving the knife up and down vertically. He told officers he feared being assaulted.
Eventually, Blankenship lowered the knife and went into the bathroom. When police arrived, she refused to come out. Officers and the victim left for about two hours to allow her to calm down.
When they returned, Blankenship opened the door and was taken into custody. She allegedly told officers there was no knife in the apartment and permitted them to search.
A gray folding pocketknife was found on a nightstand in the residence.
Blankenship is now charged with felony second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon. Under North Dakota law, a conviction for this offense can carry significant prison time and fines.
Assault cases involving dangerous weapons are taken seriously in Cass County. Officials urge victims of domestic violence or threats to contact law enforcement immediately. Resources for victims are available through the National Domestic Violence Hotline and local crisis centers.
Blankenship remains in custody as court proceedings continue.
