FARGO (trfnews.i234.me) — A Fargo woman is facing criminal charges following an alleged assault on a police officer after being removed from a local shelter.

According to court documents, on October 18, around 12:07 a.m., officers were called to the Gladys Ray Shelter for an unwanted woman identified as Jennifer Lorsung. Shelter staff requested that she be removed from the property after a disturbance.

Police say Lorsung became combative as officers attempted to escort her to a patrol car. While inside the vehicle, she allegedly kicked and swung at officers, then exited the car and continued resisting arrest. During the struggle, she reportedly scratched one officer on the neck before being restrained.

Following the incident, Lorsung was taken into custody and booked into the Cass County Jail. She now faces charges of felony simple assault on a peace officer and misdemeanor preventing arrest.

No injuries to officers were reported beyond minor scratches. The Gladys Ray Shelter provides emergency housing and support for vulnerable individuals in the Fargo-Moorhead area. More information about shelter resources can be found through the City of Fargo and Fargo Police Department websites.

The case remains under review in Cass County District Court.
