Cass County: Train Hits Combine Near Page

Cass County (trfnews.i234.me) — A fatal crash involving a BNSF train and a combine claimed one life Thursday morning northwest of Page, North Dakota, according to the North Dakota Highway Patrol.

The crash happened around 10:59 a.m. on October 9, 2025, at the intersection of 133rd Avenue SE and 16th Street SE, about five miles northwest of Page. Authorities say a 2020 John Deere combine was traveling south on 133rd Avenue SE when it collided with a westbound BNSF train.

The collision caused approximately 20 train cars to derail, sending debris and cargo into nearby fields along the tracks. The combine’s driver, a 33-year-old man from Colgate, North Dakota, died at the scene from his injuries. The train’s conductor and engineer were not hurt. Officials noted that road and weather conditions were dry at the time.

Emergency responders from the Cass County Sheriff’s Office, BNSF Police, Page Fire Department, Page Ambulance, and Sanford Ambulance assisted at the scene. 133rd Avenue Southeast is expected to remain closed north and south of the railroad crossing for 34 to 48 hours as crews clear the wreckage and repair damaged track sections.

The North Dakota Highway Patrol continues to investigate the cause of the crash. Residents and travelers are urged to avoid the area until reopening is announced. For information about train safety and rail crossing awareness, visit the North Dakota Highway Patrol and Operation Lifesaver websites.
