Cass County, MN – Authorities in Cass County, Minnesota, are investigating a Thursday night shooting near Backus that left a 34-year-old Pine River man injured. Sheriff Brian Welk reported that deputies received 911 calls at 11:26 p.m., alerting them that the victim was at a residence in Ponto Lake Township after being shot.
According to the Cass County Sheriff’s Office, the victim was shot while exiting a passenger vehicle at a nearby residence. Emergency responders arrived quickly, administered medical aid, and the victim was airlifted to Fargo for treatment. His current condition remains unknown.
Suspect Arrested
Investigators interviewed several witnesses, allowing law enforcement to quickly identify a suspect. A 47-year-old man from Hackensack, Minnesota, was located and arrested following a traffic stop.
Authorities confirmed that the victim and suspect were known to each other, and there is no active threat to public safety. The investigation remains ongoing, and more details may emerge as law enforcement continues its work.
