Cass County, North Dakota (trfnews.i234.me) — The Fargo Police Department has confirmed a second violent incident occurred early Sunday morning in downtown Fargo, separate from the fatal shooting that took place just blocks away.
Authorities say a 55-year-old man was critically injured in an aggravated assault near the 300 block of Broadway North around 3:07 a.m. on August 3, 2025. While Fargo Police were investigating the nearby shooting in the 50 block of Broadway—where three people were shot and one died—the Cass County Sheriff’s Office was assisting with emergency calls throughout the city.
According to officials, the Red River Valley Dispatch Center received a report of a seriously injured male needing medical assistance. Deputies responded and found the victim already being treated by Fargo Fire and EMS personnel. The man was transported to a local hospital and remains in critical condition.
Initially, the incident was not reported to the Fargo Police Department. Family members of the victim later contacted police to ask if he had been involved in the earlier shooting. Only then did authorities learn this was a separate case. Upon notification, the Fargo Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division launched a formal investigation.
Surveillance video confirmed the assault took place in the 300 block of Broadway North. Still images of two suspects believed to be involved have been released, and police are now asking the public for assistance in identifying them.
Officials acknowledged a breakdown in inter-agency communication and confirmed that an internal review is underway within the Cass County Sheriff’s Office. The deputies who initially responded believed the call involved an uncooperative patient, not a crime scene. Reports and body camera footage have since been turned over to Fargo Police.
“This was a violent and separate incident from the earlier shooting,” said Fargo Police officials. “We are working diligently to identify those responsible and ensure justice for the victim.”
Anyone with information is urged to contact Fargo Police through their TIP411 platform or call the department directly.
