Cass County: Moorhead Man Charged in Stolen Car Case

CASS COUNTY (trfnews.i234.me) — A Moorhead man is facing a felony theft charge after allegedly being caught driving a stolen vehicle in West Fargo.

According to court documents, Jose Zapata of Moorhead has been charged with felony theft of property. The incident began on October 4, when a West Fargo police officer received an alert from the city’s Flock camera system, which automatically detects stolen vehicles by scanning license plates.

The alert identified the car Zapata was driving as stolen. Officers located and pulled the vehicle over in the 200 block of 13th Avenue East in West Fargo. Authorities confirmed that the car had been reported stolen by a relative in Grand Forks.

Zapata was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Cass County Jail. He now faces one felony count of theft of property in connection with the stolen vehicle.

The Flock camera system, which is increasingly being used by law enforcement agencies across North Dakota and Minnesota, helps officers identify stolen or wanted vehicles in real time. Police say the system has led to several quick recoveries of stolen cars in the Fargo-West Fargo area.

The case against Zapata is pending in Cass County District Court. No additional charges have been filed at this time.
