Cass County, MN ( trfnews.i234.me ) — A knife-wielding man wearing only boxer shorts was shot by police inside a Walker Dollar General store following a chaotic pursuit Thursday evening.
According to the Walker Police Department, officers received multiple calls around 6:30 p.m. on August 8 about a man behaving erratically on Minnesota Avenue, reportedly brandishing a knife and puncturing vehicle tires.
An officer located the man, prompting a foot chase that ended inside the Dollar General store. Once inside, police say the suspect threatened to kill all employees. He allegedly sprayed an officer with bug spray and threw items before ignoring commands to drop the knife.
The suspect then charged at the officer, who shot him in the arm. Officers rendered medical aid, applying a tourniquet before paramedics transported the man to a Bemidji hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Per standard procedure, the officer has been placed on critical incident leave. The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is leading the investigation and will release the names of the officer and suspect at a later date.
