Cass County, Minnesota (trfnews.i234.me) – A Grand Rapids man is facing serious charges after allegedly assaulting and strangling his girlfriend during a violent incident on the night of July 5, 2025.

According to a criminal complaint filed in Cass County District Court, deputies responded to a residence on 60th Ave NW around 10:33 p.m. after a witness reported that Justin Leigh Robinson, 28, had choked her mother and was being held down by a neighbor.

Multiple witnesses told law enforcement that they had seen Robinson exit the residence during a prolonged argument with his girlfriend, LMP. He allegedly swung at her, threw her to the ground, and began punching and choking her.

LMP told deputies she believed she was blacking out from the strangulation. She also said Robinson had been drinking heavily.

Robinson now faces two charges:

  1. Felony Domestic Assault by Strangulation – punishable by up to 3 years in prison.

  2. Gross Misdemeanor Domestic Assault – Subsequent Violation, due to a prior domestic-related conviction in November 2024.
