Cass County, North Dakota (trfnews.i234.me) – A suspicious incident triggered a full lockdown at the Cass County Jail early Tuesday morning after two boxes were left at the jail entrance by an unknown individual.
According to Sheriff Jesse Jonner, the person dropped off the boxes at the 247 vestibule around 6:50 a.m., then immediately contacted jail control via intercom, saying staff should “take a look” before quickly leaving the scene.
Staff discovered wires and other suspicious items in one box, prompting a facility lockdown to protect inmates and personnel. A perimeter was also set up for public safety.
The Red River Regional Bomb Squad was called in and, after investigation, determined there were no explosives. The boxes contained hygiene items, garbage, and a bundle of wires, though authorities are still unclear about the intent.
The investigation is ongoing, and officials are working to identify and interview the individuals responsible. Potential criminal charges are being considered due to the disruption and public fear caused.
