Cass County (trfnews.i234.me) — A Minneapolis man held at the Cass County Jail is facing new felony charges after an alleged violent attack on a corrections officer.
According to court documents, the incident happened on August 5th inside the Fargo jail. Authorities say 39-year-old Jonathan Neil Mayeux was being moved by staff when a struggle began.
During the altercation, Mayeux allegedly spat food at two corrections officers. He then grabbed one officer’s head, pushed into the officer’s eye, and caused temporary vision loss. Officials say he also scratched the officer’s face.
Mayeux has now been charged with two felonies — simple assault against a corrections officer and contact with bodily fluids. Both charges carry the possibility of prison time and fines under North Dakota law.
At the time of the incident, Mayeux was already being held as a fugitive from justice in another state. Authorities have not released further details about the out-of-state case.
Assaults on corrections officers are taken seriously in North Dakota. State law provides additional penalties for violence committed against jail or prison staff. Officials emphasize that such incidents not only endanger staff but also disrupt facility operations.
The Cass County Jail has not commented publicly on the incident but has confirmed that safety protocols are under review.
Mayeux remains in custody as court proceedings continue.
