Cass County (trfnews.i234.me) — A woman being held at the Cass County Jail is now facing additional felony charges after allegedly assaulting two corrections officers.
According to court records, Ashley Caroline Harris, with no address listed, has been charged with two counts of felony simple assault on a corrections officer.
The incident reportedly happened on August 2nd inside the jail’s shower area. Documents state that Harris punched two female corrections officers in the face during the altercation.
Authorities note that Harris has a history of similar incidents while incarcerated at the facility. Details about her previous charges were not immediately available, but court records indicate prior disciplinary actions.
Assault on a corrections officer is a felony offense in North Dakota and can carry a prison sentence of up to five years per count, along with fines.
Officials have not released information about the officers’ injuries or whether they required medical treatment. The Cass County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the case.
Jail officials say they are committed to maintaining safety for both staff and inmates. Incidents of violence inside correctional facilities are taken seriously and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
Harris remains in custody as court proceedings move forward. A preliminary hearing is scheduled later this month.
