Fargo (trfnews.i234.me) – A man wanted in a deadly downtown Fargo shooting is now in custody.

Officials say 20-year-old Tyrque Jones, of Fargo, was arrested in Minneapolis. Jones had been the focus of a regional search since early August. He was wanted on a Cass County warrant in connection with the killing of 19-year-old Azeem Holmes, also of Fargo.

The case began after a shooting on the 50 block of Broadway North outside District 64 in downtown Fargo. Responders found Holmes with gunshot wounds. He later died from his injuries. The shooting raised concern in the busy entertainment area and led to a major investigation.

After the homicide, investigators with the Fargo Police Department quickly identified Jones as a suspect. A warrant was issued for his arrest. Detectives worked with partner agencies across state lines as they searched for him.

According to Fargo Police, the arrest was made by the U.S. Marshals Service North Star Task Force, based in Minneapolis–St. Paul area. Task force members located Jones in Minneapolis and took him into custody without further incident. Details on the exact arrest location were not released.

Authorities say Jones will face the North Dakota warrant tied to the murder of Azeem Holmes. Court appearances are expected after any extradition or transfer steps are complete. Exact hearing dates were not immediately available.

The Fargo Police Department has announced a press conference at 3:30 p.m. at police headquarters. Officials are expected to share more information about the arrest, the status of the investigation, and the next legal steps in the case. They may also address public safety concerns in the downtown area.

Investigators continue to ask anyone with additional information about the shooting or the hours before it to contact Fargo Police or submit tips online. Background information about homicide investigations and criminal procedure can be found through public resources such as the Bureau of Justice Statistics.

We will update this story as more details become available from law enforcement and the courts.
