Fargo (trfnews.i234.me) – A Fargo man with a long criminal history is once again facing new charges after a stolen car incident early Tuesday morning. According to court documents, around 2:45 a.m., an officer’s automatic license plate reader flagged a vehicle as stolen. The driver, identified as Michael D. Carrington Jr. of Fargo, was stopped soon after.

When questioned, Carrington reportedly told police that the car belonged to a friend and he didn’t know it was stolen. However, investigators determined that the story was not true. The vehicle had been reported stolen in Minnesota. During a search of the car, officers also discovered methamphetamine.

Carrington was taken into custody and is now facing two new felony charges — theft of property and possession of a controlled substance (meth). He has a lengthy criminal record with prior convictions in both North Dakota and Minnesota.

Authorities continue to review the case and determine if additional charges will be filed. The stolen vehicle was recovered, and no injuries were reported during the arrest.

Cases like this highlight how license plate readers are helping law enforcement identify stolen vehicles more efficiently across state lines. Carrington remains in custody while awaiting his next court appearance.
