Cass County (trfnews.i234.me) – A Fargo man is facing an aggravated assault charge after a violent attack at a homeless shelter earlier this week.

According to court documents, police responded to the New Life Shelter in Fargo at 3:49 a.m. on August 14th for a report of an assault.

When officers arrived, they found a male victim suffering from a severe head wound and a hand injury. The victim told police he had no memory of the assault, as he had been attacked while sleeping outside the shelter.

Shelter staff reviewed surveillance footage, which identified the suspect as Breon V. Anderson. The video reportedly showed Anderson using a folding chair to strike the victim multiple times before fleeing the scene on a bicycle.

Police located Anderson a short time later at a convenience store, where he was taken into custody without incident. He is now charged in Cass County Court with aggravated assault, a felony offense that carries the possibility of significant prison time if convicted.

Authorities say the victim is recovering from his injuries, though the full extent of the damage remains under evaluation.

The case underscores the vulnerability of unhoused individuals and the challenges faced by shelters in ensuring safety for their residents and community members.

Anderson remains in custody as his case proceeds through the court system.
