ELK RIVER, MN (trfnews.i234.me) – Sherburne County investigators have officially closed the decades-old case of a deceased infant found in a box by the side of the road near Elk River, Minnesota, in 1989. The Sheriff’s Office announced on Thursday that recent advancements in DNA technology led to the identification of the baby’s mother. The woman, who had hidden her pregnancy from her parents, told authorities that the baby was stillborn.

Due to the statute of limitations on improperly disposing of the baby’s body has expired, the county attorney has decided not to pursue any charges, effectively closing the case.
