Carol Jo Kankel, 56, of Red Lake Falls, MN passed away on Saturday, October 17, 2020, following many years of serious health issues. Her memory lives on in the minds of the people whose weddings she sang for, and attended or were part of the many theater productions she acted in or directed.
A small service will be held for family and close friends at Johnson Funeral Service in Red Lake Falls on Monday, November 2, 2020, at 10:00 AM with Father Bob Schreiner presiding. Burial will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery in Red Lake Falls, MN. Masks are required, please.
Carol was born in Red Lake Falls on October 7th, 1964 to David and Sherry Kankel. She attended St. Josephs’ Catholic Elementary School and graduated from Lafayette High School in 1983. She attended the University of North Dakota and received her Bachelor of Arts Degrees in Vocal Music Performance and Music Education, for band and choir. She was an auditioned member of the UND Jazz Choir, which toured Europe. Carol was an accomplished pianist and played many instruments. She had a love of music and performance that was a part of everything she did. Carol had a big heart and caring personality which showed through in her smile and laughter.
Carol is survived by her siblings, Kris (Dennis) Thorfinnson of Gillette, WY, Tracy Erickson of Andover, MN, Nancy Kankel (Ginny Staudt) of Lakeville, MN, Erika (Ron) Knips of Lakeville, MN, and Karl (Marlo) Kankel of Lakeville, MN. She loved and was very proud of her nieces and nephews. She also relied on many close friends and aunts and uncles. Carol also leaves behind her beloved cats, Bohdi and Freya.
Carol was preceded in death by her parents, Sherry and David Kankel, Grandparents, aunts and uncles, and a niece.
