Carl Johner March 4, 1963 - January 15, 2021

Carl Emric Johner of Thief River Falls, MN passed away at his home on January 15, 2021 due to natural causes.

Carl was born March 4, 1963 in Duluth, Minnesota to his beloved parents Blaine and Pauline (Polly Finstad) Johner. Carl had a sister, Carole Johner (Voorhis) born a year later. Growing up Carl and Carole were often thought of as twins and maintained a close relationship. In childhood, Carl was involved in football and wrestling. Other interests included reading, motorbikes, snowmobiles, fishing trips to Canada with his dad, and the Green Bay Packers.

Carl joined the Navy in 1982 and was able to serve his country and travel to many places during his time of service. At the time of his discharge, he was stationed in Okinawa, Japan. He maintained connections with his Naval battle buddies and others he met during his time of service.

Those closest to Carl knew he lived his life with a sense of curiosity and adventure. His true asset was his generous and kind heart. His all-around good-natured and social personality caught him meeting people and making many friends. He loved going to concerts and especially loved attending “WE Fest” an annual event for Carl. To his “WE Fest” friends they witnessed Carl at his finest. He was quick to be the “go to guy” and anyone who spent time with him found him to be fun, informative, and always willing to give a helping hand. As noted on Facebook, “He will be missed;” “WE Fest will not be the same without you.”

Carl worked at Northwestern Homes in Thief River Falls, MN and was a faithful, dependable, and hardworking employee for many years. His co-workers found him to be kindhearted, unassuming and hardworking. The family found great comfort with the sharing of stories of Carl’s work adventures during his employment.

Carl’s love of pets is also another fine feature of his and always had a four-legged friend.

He married Wendie Hornback in 1989 and the couple had one son together Blaine C. Johner. Carl’s proudest moment was the birth of his son. He also achieved the status of grandfather with the birth of his two wonderful grandchildren Jaxon and Jace Johner; which was an extension of his pride and joy. Those closest to him often shared that Carl’s happiest moments was when he was able to talk about his son Blaine, grandsons (Jaxon and Jace) and his daughter-in-law Holly.

Carl is loved by many and will be missed.

He is preceded in death by his father Blaine E. Johner, grandparents Carl and Mildred Johner, Chris and Marge Haman, aunts Sharon Beaulieu and beloved godmother “Auntie Jan” Johner; uncle Tom Miller.

Carl is survived by: son Blaine (Holly) Johner; grandchildren Jaxon and Jace Johner; mother Pauline Finstad; step-mother Jackie Johner; sister Carole Voorhis; along with several aunts, uncles and cousins, his dog Belle and friend Wendy Gustafson.

Any donations or cards are asked to be sent directly to the funeral home and further arrangements will be made by the family.

Due to Covid-19 a small and private family service was conducted. A public memorial service will be scheduled sometime in the future.
