BREAKING NEWS UPDATE: Crookston Police Fatally Shoot Man Armed with Hatchet

CROOKSTON, MN (trfnews.i234.me) – Crookston police shot and killed a man armed with a hatchet early Thursday morning. Neil Berg here with breaking news from Crookston, Minnesota. Just before 1:00 a.m. on Thursday, Crookston Police Chief Darren Selzer confirmed an officer-involved shooting resulting in the suspect’s death.

Chief Selzer stated, “Today at 12:53 a.m., officers encountered a man in the street swinging a hatchet in the area of East 7th Street in Crookston. Upon initial contact, the man rapidly approached the officers. Less-lethal means were deployed, but the man continued to advance at the officers with the hatchet, and they shot him.” Crookston ambulance services transported the individual with a gunshot wound to the hospital, where he later died.

The Crookston Police Department has requested the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension to investigate the incident. This is an ongoing investigation, and no further details are available at this time. Chief Selzer emphasized that this was an isolated incident with no concern for public safety.

The Crookston Police were assisted by the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, the State Patrol, and Crookston Area Ambulance.
