ST. LOUIS COUNTY, MN (trfnews.i234.me) – A holiday celebration turned deadly in French Township, near Hibbing, Minnesota, when a fire ignited by a flammable liquid exploded, leaving one man dead and eight others injured. The incident occurred on Friday night at a gathering on Jaranson Road, about 20 miles north of Hibbing.
The St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office reported that several families and friends were enjoying the holiday weekend when an unknown flammable liquid was used to start a fire. The resulting explosion fatally injured a 53-year-old man from Hibbing and inflicted burn and inhalation injuries on eight others, ranging in age from 14 to over 60.
A child with severe burns was airlifted to a hospital in the Twin Cities for specialized care. The other victims, with injuries ranging from minor to serious, were transported to a local hospital by ambulance and private vehicles.
Authorities are continuing to investigate the cause of the explosion. The identity of the deceased man is expected to be released by the Midwest Medical Examiner’s Office. No criminal charges have been filed at this time.
