Polk County (trfnews.i234.me) — Earlier this week, Caleb Ryan Coffey, 34, of Yukon, Oklahoma, was shot in the leg by a law enforcement officer after a harrowing 100+ mph pursuit from Pembina, North Dakota, to west of Crookston, Minnesota. The incident began at the Canadian border and escalated across multiple counties, with speeds topping 120 mph, near misses of officers, and swerving through towns like Shrak, Euclid, and downtown Crookston.
After deploying multiple stop sticks which Coffey evaded, the pursuit ended when Coffey’s Cadillac was rammed into a ditch on County Road 9. He exited the vehicle armed with a 9mm pistol, which he raised to his head, prompting an officer to shoot him in the leg. Authorities also recovered a .40 caliber loaded pistol in a holster on his hip. Coffey was wearing a bulletproof vest.
As of Saturday, April 12th, Coffey remains jailed. Charges have escalated beyond felony fleeing to include:
-
Assault with a dangerous weapon
-
Crime while wearing a bulletproof vest
-
Possession of dangerous weapons
-
Possession of a pistol without a permit
The Minnesota BCA is continuing to investigate the officer-involved shooting.
