Polk County (trfnews.i234.me) — A high-speed pursuit that began at the U.S. Port of Entry in Pembina, ND ended in a violent officer-involved shooting west of Crookston, MN, involving Caleb Ryan Coffey, 33, of Yukon, Arizona.
On the morning of April 7, Border Patrol agents began chasing a 2011 Cadillac with Oklahoma plates, registered to Coffey, as it sped through Oslo, Minnesota. A Marshall County deputy clocked the pursuit at 118 mph near Warren and alerted officers to deploy stop sticks. The Cadillac evaded every attempt.
During the chase, Coffey swerved at two officers, nearly hitting them, then tore through Sherack, Euclid, and Crookston, reaching 120 mph. After a wild 5-mile run on County Road 9, Coffee crashed into a ditch. When he exited, he held a loaded 9mm pistol to his head. Despite officers pleading with him, Coffee was shot in the leg after failing to comply. He also had a .40-cal pistol on his hip.
Coffey is charged with felony fleeing a peace officer. The BCA is investigating the shooting. Additional charges may follow in Marshall County and Pembina for the border run.
