Becker County, MN (trfnews.i234.me) – In a move set to shake Minnesota politics, Alpha News has filed a civil lawsuit in Becker County District Court demanding the release of bodycam and dashcam footage from the April 22 arrest of State Senator Nicole Lynn Mitchell, who faces a felony first-degree burglary charge.
According to the filed complaint, officers allegedly found Mitchell in her stepmother’s basement dressed in black, with a sock-covered flashlight and a backpack stuck in a window containing laptops, her ID, and other personal items. Mitchell reportedly told officers, “I know I did something bad.”
Despite these admissions, Mitchell has since claimed she was checking on her stepmother’s welfare and retrieving sentimental items after her father’s passing. Her attorney says she had a key to the home and that the government’s account “lacks complete information.”
Alpha News argues the footage will either validate or contradict Mitchell’s version of events and insists Minnesotans have a right to the truth. The lawsuit cites overwhelming public interest, ethics complaints filed against Mitchell, and disruption to the state’s legislative process.
The court is asked to review the video in camera and weigh the public benefit of disclosure against any potential harm. A decision could define the limits of privacy and transparency in Minnesota law enforcement and politics.
