Mahnomen County (trfnews.i234.me) – The Mahnomen County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed a tragic incident just south of Mahnomen, where a body was discovered in a ditch following what appears to be a fatal hit-and-run.

According to a release, deputies responded to a call shortly after 6:00 a.m. on July 18 regarding a man lying in the ditch near the intersection of Highway 59 and 160th Avenue, approximately two miles south of Mahnomen. Upon arrival, authorities found the victim deceased at the scene, the result of an apparent vehicle vs. pedestrian crash.

The involved vehicle was later located unoccupied on 160th Avenue North. Officials have identified the driver, who is currently in custody. No additional details have been released at this time.

The investigation is ongoing, with the Mahnomen County Sheriff’s Office assisting the White Earth Police Department and the Minnesota State Patrol.
