Blackduck, Beltrami County (trfnews.i234.me) — Authorities in Blackduck, Minnesota, say they may have narrowly averted a tragedy at the town’s high school prom late Saturday night.

At approximately 11:00 p.m., an emergency call was made requesting Blackduck ambulance personnel to respond to Summit and Main Streets, near Blackduck High School. Officers on the scene were with a male subject who they feared was preparing for an active shooting. They immediately requested medical assistance to check the individual.

Chris Muller, a spokesperson for the Beltrami County Sheriff’s Office, later clarified that no weapon was found in the incident. According to an official statement, a student was removed from the Blackduck School Prom for violating school rules. After being removed, the student became highly upset and issued targeted threats toward school staff.

The juvenile left the premises but was quickly located by deputies nearby. The threats made by the student were corroborated by multiple witnesses at the event. The juvenile was taken into custody and later transported to the Northwest Juvenile Detention Center on charges of terroristic threats.

Officials emphasized that at no time was a weapon seen or discovered. The case remains under active investigation.
