Maywood Township, Benton County (trfnews.i234.me)On Wednesday, April 23, 2025, at approximately 5:31 AM, a 45-year-old man from Milaca, Minnesota, was injured in a collision with a black bear on southbound Highway 23 near mile marker 227 in Maywood Township.

According to the Minnesota State Patrol, the man’s 2024 Chevy Silverado struck the bear, resulting in the deployment of the vehicle’s airbags. The driver, who was wearing a seatbelt, sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to St. Cloud Hospital by North Ambulance.

The black bear died as a result of the collision.

The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources estimates that there are approximately 13,000 to 18,000 black bears in the state, primarily residing in the northern third. However, bears can also be found in central and southern regions, especially during mating season, which typically occurs from May to July.

Road conditions were reported as dry at the time of the incident.
