Bemidji, Beltrami County (trfnews.i234.me) — A Bemidji woman faces a new driving charge after a traffic stop.

What happened

Court records say an officer stopped a pickup on Aug 21, 2025, at about 7:08 pm. The stop happened near America Avenue NW and 14th Street NW. The truck had dark stickers on the rear window. The complaint also cites a loud exhaust.

The driver was identified as Cherie Kay Kingbird, 44, of Bemidji. The complaint says she told the officer she had no valid license. The officer then checked her status in state records.

Charge filed

Prosecutors charged Kingbird with driving after cancellation as “inimical to public safety”. The case was filed in Beltrami County District Court. The court file number is 04-CR-25-3240. The prosecutor’s file number is BCI-0010161.

The charge is a gross misdemeanor under Minnesota law. A conviction can mean up to 364 days in jail. It can also bring a fine of up to $3,000.

The complaint says her driving privileges were canceled on May 21, 2023. It says the cancellation was still active on the stop date. The law cited is Minnesota Statute 171.24.

Driver’s license reminders

Minnesota uses several license actions, including cancellations and revocations. Drivers must meet state steps before driving again. The Minnesota Department of Public Safety shares licensing guidance online.
