Beltrami County (trfnews.i234.me) — A 19-year-old Redby man is facing felony charges after a stabbing at a Bemidji apartment, court records say.

Charges filed in Beltrami County

Cameron Lee Kingbird, 19, was charged Monday in Beltrami County District Court.

He is charged with second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon.

He is also charged with false imprisonment.

He is also charged with fifth-degree assault.

Deputies called to the Bemidji apartment

Deputies responded around 1 a.m. Friday to 404 Town Hall Road NW in Bemidji.

Dispatch reported an assault involving a weapon, according to the complaint.

Deputies found Kingbird outside the building, the complaint states.

He was holding his stomach and bleeding, records say.

Victim found inside with stab wounds

Inside the apartment, deputies found the victim, court records say.

The victim had been stabbed three times in the torso, the complaint states.

The victim was having trouble breathing and could not speak, records say.

Court records say the victim appeared to be frothing at the mouth.

Witness account of the fight

A witness told investigators she arrived with her brother to hang out, records say.

About 40 minutes later, she said Kingbird began acting strangely toward her.

She said he put an arm around her and told her to stay, the complaint states.

She also reported earlier unwanted comments, according to the complaint.

When she tried to leave, she said Kingbird grabbed her shoulders, records say.

The victim tried to step in, and a fight started, the complaint states.

Knife used during the scuffle

Court records say Kingbird grabbed a knife during the fight.

Records say he stabbed the victim, then stabbed him two more times.

The complaint says the victim was on the ground during the later strikes.

Struggle over the weapon

The witness said she grabbed Kingbird’s arms and took the knife away.

During the struggle, she said Kingbird bit her hand, leaving a cut.

She said she stabbed Kingbird in defense of her brother, records say.

Investigation and court date

Deputies recovered a knife with apparent blood inside the apartment, records say.

The victim later underwent surgery, according to the complaint.

Medical records were still pending at the time of the filing.

Kingbird is scheduled to make his first court appearance on Monday afternoon.
