Beltrami County (trfnews.i234.me) – A suspect wanted on an outstanding warrant was arrested late Friday afternoon after a police pursuit through several areas of Bemidji. Officers reported that the suspect swung a hatchet at an officer during the arrest. The incident unfolded in Beltrami County.
The pursuit began near the Skyline Mobile Home Park, where officers attempted to stop a suspect riding a bicycle. The individual fled, and the chase moved through the Taco Bell parking lot and continued into a nearby cemetery. Officers pursued both in vehicles and on foot as the suspect continued to evade capture.
The pursuit ended on 18th Street near a practice football field. An officer on foot made contact with the suspect and knocked him off the bicycle. According to initial reports, the suspect then swung a hatchet at the officer one or two times. The officer was not injured during the confrontation.
Officers were able to subdue the suspect and take him into custody. He was transported to the Beltrami County Jail. Authorities say formal charges are expected to be filed on Monday.
Incidents involving weapons during arrests remain a serious concern for law enforcement. According to the Minnesota Department of Public Safety, officers face increased risks when suspects flee or resist arrest with weapons.
More details may be released as the case moves forward. TRF News will provide updates as information becomes available.
