Bemidji Police Respond to Suicidal Individual

BEMIDJI, MN (trfnews.i234.me) Bemidji Police and a tactical unit was brought in to deal with a suicidal male Sunday evening.
a large police presence in Bemidji on Sunday evening for a suicidal subject this from police chief Mike Mastin on Sunday at 4 32 p.m Beltrami County dispatch received a call from an individual threatening suicide the male made threats of a shootout and reported themselves armed with a knife and Firearm additional callers also reported the subject was suicidal and made specific threats the male indicated he was at his own residence with limited risk to the public in response to the call Bemidji police sheriff’s office and Headwaters crisis negotiators team began a crisis response which included initiating remote communication with the male responding officers did not attempt to make physical contact with the male due to specific threats being made toward responders and not the public members of the crisis negotiations team continued negotiations for approximately one and a half hours in an attempt to resolve and de-escalate the situation during the negotiations the male identified that he intended to end the situation in a gun fight at approximately six o’clock Sunday night officers on Perimeter in a public location encountered the male who continued to make threats of being armed and posture to use a firearm officers continue with crisis negotiation tactics however the subject refused to follow commands officers identified an opportunity to use Hands-On tactics to quickly apprehend the mail and did so without further incident no firearm was located on the mail and it was taken into custody for treatment Bemidji ambulance also assisted with the incident I’m Neil Berg reporting for itrfnews.i234.me
