Bemidji (trfnews.i234.me) — A Bemidji man faces four felony charges in Beltrami County. Prosecutors say he sexually assaulted a juvenile relative in January. The allegations appear in a criminal complaint filed in the Ninth Judicial District Court.
The complaint names Alexander Michael Efta, 18, of Bemidji. Court records show he is charged with two counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct, one count of third-degree criminal sexual conduct, and one count of fourth-degree criminal sexual conduct.

What The Complaint Says
According to the complaint, the reported assaults happened on or about January 24 and 25, 2026. The location was the Turtle River area of Beltrami County. The complaint says the juvenile and Efta are cousins. It also says their families knew each other well.
Investigators say the juvenile reported the abuse on March 2. The complaint says the juvenile told authorities that Efta pulled the victim into a bedroom and forced sexual acts. The complaint also says the victim reported another assault in August 2025.
Prosecutors allege one of the first-degree counts involves a significant relationship. Another first-degree count alleges force or coercion. The third-degree count alleges the victim was 15 and that Efta was more than 24 months older. The fourth-degree count alleges sexual contact through coercion.
Search Warrant And Arrest
The complaint says Efta was later arrested. Investigators also obtained a search warrant for his home. According to the filing, the layout of the home matched the juvenile’s description. The complaint includes the bathroom, bedroom location, and the condition of the room.
During an interview, the complaint says Efta first denied having sexual contact with his cousin. The complaint then says he later admitted to sexual contact on multiple occasions. Prosecutors also say he reacted strongly when asked about the January 2026 allegations.
Case Status
The case was filed in Beltrami County District Court under case number 04-CR-26-641. Charges are accusations, not convictions. Efta is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
