Bemidji, MN (trfnews.i234.me) — Overnight storms wreaked havoc across Bemidji, leaving the city grappling with major destruction, downed power lines, and gas leaks. In a public address Saturday morning, Mayor Jorge Prince confirmed that both downtown and the surrounding areas were hit hard.
“Much of the city has suffered extensive damage,” said Prince, speaking from downtown. He urged residents to stay home and avoid unnecessary travel due to dangerous conditions, including active utility hazards.
City staff, county, and state emergency crews have been responding since the early morning hours, establishing an emergency command center to coordinate relief and restoration. A significant portion of Bemidji remains without power, though repair crews are actively working to restore service.
Mayor Prince emphasized safety and community care: “Take care of one another. We’ll continue sharing information as we get it.”
