According to officials, firefighters were dispatched to a trailer home fire a couple of miles west of Bemidji on 15th Street. Crews arrived to find smoke and flames visible from the front of the structure. A total of 14 firefighters worked for roughly two hours to bring the blaze under control.
The trailer and its contents suffered extensive damage. Fortunately, no injuries were reported. Investigators say the fire began in the kitchen. While the cause is still under review, it appears to have been accidental.
At nearly the same time, another call came in for a fire east of town on Brinkman Drive. Firefighters discovered that a large brush pile was burning. The blaze did not cause any damage to surrounding property, and no one was hurt. Crews were able to contain it quickly.
Residents were reminded of fire safety as conditions remain dry in the region. Proper disposal of ashes and monitoring of burn piles are strongly advised. For more information on fire safety, visit the Minnesota DNR Firewise program.
Both incidents remain under investigation, but officials confirmed that no criminal activity is suspected at this time.
