Beltrami County (trfnews.i234.me) — A disturbing case has unfolded in Beltrami County, Minnesota, where David Lee Kingbird of Cass Lake has been charged with multiple crimes after allegedly shooting a dog without provocation.
According to court records, on March 17th, a resident of 2564 Jenkins Road Southeast reported hearing a gunshot and soon after, saw her dog fatally wounded outside her home. Witnesses reported seeing a man in a black hoodie, later identified as Kingbird, leaving the scene and heading towards 2622 Jenkins Road Southeast.
Law enforcement traced footprints leading to that location and later discovered a belt, holster, and a Remington .22 caliber rifle nearby. As officers attempted to arrest Kingbird, he fled but was eventually tracked to a residence on Mission Road where he was taken into custody.
Kingbird allegedly admitted to shooting the dog and questioned why he wasn’t already charged. He now faces charges including felony firearm possession by a felon, animal cruelty, and fleeing a peace officer on foot.
