Beltrami County Attorney Issues Warning After Surge in Reckless Motorcycle Speeds

BEMIDJI, MN (trfnews.i234.me) – Beltrami County Attorney David Hansen, based in Bemidji, has issued a public warning to motorcyclists after filing charges on August 14th for reckless driving and no insurance. The charges stem from an incident the previous night where a motorcyclist on a high-performance “crotch rocket” was clocked exceeding 100 mph. Hansen noted that, while he typically wouldn’t issue a press release for a misdemeanor traffic case, the alarming rise in high-speed motorcycle incidents has become a major concern. He referenced a tragic incident last year where a young man died after crashing his motorcycle while traveling over 100 mph. According to the Minnesota Department of Public Safety, 2022 saw 80 motorcycle fatalities and 293 serious injury accidents statewide. Hansen emphasized that vehicles used in police chases can be seized and forfeited, urging all drivers to exercise caution on the roads.
