Becker County ( trfnews.i234.me ) – A rural Callaway woman is facing felony charges after authorities say she fled a White Earth police officer during a family disturbance call in July.
According to court records, Donna Jean Knutson, 34, of Callaway, has been charged in Becker County District Court with felony fleeing a peace officer in a motor vehicle.
The incident occurred on July 26 when an officer responded to a report of disorderly behavior at a family gathering in Callaway. A man at the scene told police Knutson had been causing problems and was asked to leave.
Court documents say Knutson got into a red pickup and began driving toward the officer. He had to step aside to avoid being struck. When the officer ordered her to stop, Knutson allegedly looked at him, said “no,” and drove past him through the yard.
At the same time, Knutson’s boyfriend began chasing the officer, yelling at him to leave her alone. Despite repeated commands, he allegedly continued to follow and shout at the officer until family members tried to intervene. Witnesses reported he then turned on another man at the scene before the officer drew his taser. He was eventually arrested without further incident.
Knutson’s first court appearance is scheduled for September 11 before District Judge Michelle W. Lawson.
If convicted, fleeing a peace officer in a motor vehicle carries a maximum penalty of three years in prison and a $5,000 fine under Minnesota law.
