Becker County, MN (trfnews.i234.me) – A 59-year-old rural Ponsford woman is facing multiple charges after allegedly threatening to kill children swimming near Round Lake earlier this month.
Lorna Ann Hanes has been charged in Becker County District Court with felony threats of violence, as well as misdemeanor harassment and disorderly conduct.
According to court records, at 6:22 p.m. on July 3, White Earth police officers were dispatched to a residence after reports that Hanes was yelling threats at children playing in the water near nearby cabins.
Witnesses told officers that Hanes came out onto the deck of her neighboring home and shouted multiple statements, including:
-
“This is Ojibwe territory, you need to leave!”
-
“Shut the f— up, tell your kids to shut the f— up!”
-
“I will come down there and kill you all!”
-
“I’ll kill your children!”
A nearby cabin owner, whose children were in the lake at the time, said the threats left them feeling unsafe, and they took the children to another cabin down the road for the evening.
When officers approached Hanes’ cabin, she eventually came to the door. Court documents state she appeared intoxicated and matched the description provided by witnesses. Hanes reportedly struggled with officers before being placed in handcuffs and transported to the Becker County Jail.
Hanes was released without bail on July 7 under standard conditions, including no alcohol or drug use and no assaultive behavior. Her next court appearance is scheduled for August 25 before District Judge Gretchen Thilmony.
