Becker County (trfnews.i234.me): Ponsford Man Charged in Baseball Bat Assault

A Ponsford, Minnesota man is facing a felony assault charge after allegedly hitting another man with a baseball bat during an altercation southwest of Detroit Lakes.

According to Becker County Sheriff’s Office reports, deputies were called to a trailer park on October 4th for a report of a man with severe head injuries.
Responding officers found the victim with two holes in his head and heavy trauma to his face.
A medical helicopter was called to airlift the victim for emergency treatment.

Court documents identify the suspect as Calvin D. Basswood of Ponsford.
Investigators discovered large amounts of blood throughout the victim’s girlfriend’s trailer home, where the attack reportedly occurred.
The girlfriend told deputies the victim had assaulted her earlier, prompting her to contact her cousin, Basswood, for help.

When Basswood arrived, he allegedly struck the victim with a baseball bat.
Deputies later located Basswood, who declined to give a statement.
He was arrested and charged with first-degree assault causing great bodily harm, a felony under Minnesota law.

Authorities continue to investigate the case.
If convicted, Basswood could face significant prison time.
The condition of the injured man has not been released.
