Becker County (trfnews.i234.me) — A Naytahwaush man faces several charges after staff at the Becker County Jail found drugs inside his cell. The incident was reported on November 6, according to court records.

Officials identified the man as Robert James Azure, 51, of rural Naytahwaush. Azure now faces two felony drug charges and a gross misdemeanor charge of bringing drugs into a jail facility. Court documents describe the discovery in detail.

Jail staff reported Azure acting strangely inside his cell. A deputy looked inside the cell and found two small baggies. One baggie held white crystal-like shards. The second baggie held a white, rock-like substance.

The deputy tried to speak with Azure. Court documents say the conversation was not possible because Azure struggled to speak clearly.

The deputy brought both baggies to the Becker County Sheriff’s Office for testing. The first baggie weighed 3.51 grams with packaging. A field test confirmed the substance was methamphetamine. The second baggie weighed 2.86 grams with packaging. That substance tested positive for cocaine.

According to the criminal complaint, Azure brought both drugs into the jail. Minnesota law prohibits anyone from introducing controlled substances into a correctional facility. More information on Minnesota drug laws is available through the
Minnesota Statutes.

Azure appeared in court on November 10. Bail or bond was set at $50,000 with no conditions or $20,000 with standard release conditions. Court records show his next hearing is scheduled for November 24 before District Judge Gretchen Thilmony. More details can be found on the Minnesota Court Records Portal.
