Detroit Lakes, MN (trfnews.i234.me) – A volatile encounter on Highway 10 has led to felony charges against a Detroit Lakes man accused of brandishing a loaded pistol at someone with ties to his wife’s past.

According to Becker County authorities, on May 23, 2025, Omar Espinoza, 33, allegedly pointed a Glock 19 with a live round at another man twice, as they drove near Audubon and Detroit Lakes. The victim claims the threats stemmed from a past relationship with Espinoza’s wife.

The man told deputies he was simply heading to his son’s graduation when he noticed a vehicle tailgating him near Lake Park. That vehicle, allegedly driven by Espinoza, pulled alongside him, and a gun was pointed out the window. The victim recognized Espinoza and feared for his life, especially after a second gunpoint incident west of town.

Deputies arrested Espinoza in the Walmart parking lot, where he admitted to having a gun in his glovebox. Authorities recovered the loaded pistol and a rifle from his vehicle.

Espinoza faces a second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon charge, a felony punishable by up to 7 years in prison.
