Detroit Lakes (trfnews.i234.me) — A Detroit Lakes woman is facing a felony theft charge after Walmart investigators reported a series of missed-scan incidents over two months. The charge was filed in Becker County District Court following a detailed loss prevention review.

Court records identify the suspect as Charteena Marie Walker, 29. According to the complaint, the Detroit Lakes Police Department received a theft report from Walmart on October 24, 2025. Walmart loss prevention staff provided documentation showing a pattern of thefts committed by Walker between August 27 and October 23.

Investigators say Walker failed to scan merchandise during self-checkout and then exited the store without paying for the unscanned items. Walmart reported approximately ten separate incidents during this timeframe. The combined loss totaled $1,003.51, according to the complaint filed with the court.

Because the incidents occurred within six months, Minnesota law allows prosecutors to combine them into a single felony offense. The statute supporting this charge can be found in the state’s criminal code at Minnesota Statute 609.52.

Walmart loss prevention staff presented video, transaction records, and internal reports to law enforcement. Officials say the documentation was clear, consistent, and covered all ten alleged incidents. Police forwarded the full investigation to Becker County prosecutors, who then approved the felony charge.

Walker’s first court appearance is scheduled for December 23 before District Court Judge Michael D. Fritz. Additional filings and future hearing updates can be accessed on the Minnesota Court Records Portal.
