Barnes County (trfnews.i234.me) — A South Dakota man was killed Thursday afternoon after his semi-truck ran off the roadway west of Valley City.

According to the North Dakota Highway Patrol, the crash happened on August 14, 2025, around 4:41 p.m. on eastbound Interstate 94 near mile marker 276.

Authorities say a 2007 Peterbilt semi-truck, driven by 37-year-old Dirk Rozeboom of Hudson, South Dakota, left the roadway for unknown reasons. The truck entered a ditch, continued through a slough, and came to rest 200 to 300 yards into a cornfield.

Rozeboom was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash. Emergency crews transported him to Mercy Hospital in Valley City, where he later died from his injuries.

Responding agencies included the Barnes County Sheriff’s Office, Valley City Fire Department, Valley City Ambulance, and the North Dakota Highway Patrol.

The cause of the crash has not yet been determined. The incident remains under investigation by the North Dakota Highway Patrol.
