ROSEAU COUNTY, MN (trfnews.i234.me) – A Badger man is facing two gross misdemeanor DWI charges after being found intoxicated in a ditch near 340th Ave, with a golden retriever and a nearby vehicle stuck in mud.

According to the complaint, Deputy Damian Moore responded to a report from a resident, Mike Eaton, who found Kirk Laverne Hamre, 62, lying in a ditch and appearing heavily intoxicated. Hamre admitted to drinking “eight or nine beers” and had no recollection of events.

Deputies later found a vehicle in the ditch, identified by Hamre as his, containing a case of beer, his phone, and mail addressed to him. A blood test confirmed a BAC of .171 — more than twice the legal limit.

Hamre declined sobriety tests, saying, “What’s the point? I will fail them anyway,” and was arrested. Due to chest pain, he was taken to a hospital before the blood draw. He now faces two gross misdemeanor charges with a potential sentence of 364 days in jail and/or a $3,000 fine on each count.
