Roseau County (trfnews.i234.me) — A bizarre and dangerous incident has led to DWI charges for a 62-year-old Badger man who was found drunk in a ditch, later collapsing with chest pains after being taken into custody.

On April 18, 2025, Roseau County Deputies responded to a rural call from a farmer, who reported a disoriented man and his dog knocking at his door. That man, later identified as Kirk Laverne Hamre, was found lying in a ditch, smelling of alcohol, and unable to recall what had happened.

Further investigation led deputies to Hamre’s vehicle, found stuck in a muddy ditch, with an open case of beer and his mail inside. Hamre admitted it was his vehicle but had no memory of driving. He refused field sobriety tests, stating, “What’s the point? I’ll fail them anyway.”

Hamre was arrested, but during transport collapsed and complained of chest pain. A blood test obtained under a warrant later showed a .171 BAC, more than twice the legal limit.

Hamre now faces two gross misdemeanor DWI charges, each punishable by up to 364 days in jail and a $3,000 fine.
