Cass County (trfnews.i234.me) – A Backus woman is in serious legal trouble again after a court-authorized drug raid uncovered methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia in her home.
According to court documents, Nancy Elaine Covey, 41, was charged on June 13, 2025, with felony fifth-degree drug possession after Cass County Sheriff’s deputies executed a search warrant at her residence on 34th Avenue NW in Backus.
Inside the home, officers found multiple glass smoking devices, a “hot rail” pipe, a tray with residue, and a crystalline substance field-tested as methamphetamine weighing 3.7 grams. The meth was found in Covey’s bedroom drawer, alongside a purse containing ID cards in her name.
This isn’t Covey’s first run-in with meth. Records show she was already on a one-year stay of adjudication for a previous gross misdemeanor drug conviction in case 11-CR-24-1828, dated March 10, 2025.
She now faces a felony under Minnesota statute 152.025.2(a)(1), carrying a possible sentence of up to 5 years and $10,000—or up to 10 years and $20,000 for a repeat offense.
