Audubon Man Faces Felony Theft Charges: Anthony Lee Stands Accused of Check Swindle

Becker County, MN (trfnews.i234.me) – Anthony Lee Stands, 31, from Audubon, has been charged with felony theft by swindle in Becker County District Court. The charges stem from an alleged check forgery incident reported on April 17. According to court records, Stands deposited a $3,400 check from a vehicle sale into the bank account of a victim identified as T.J.B. Stands then instructed T.J.B. to withdraw $2,400 and give it to him, keeping $1,000 for himself.

However, on April 17, Bell Bank notified T.J.B. that the check was fraudulent. Photos from Bell Bank reveal that Stands deposited the check at the Hawley branch while T.J.B. withdrew the funds at the Detroit Lakes branch. Further investigation showed that the check was linked to a previous fraud case involving Stands from February 2024, although the check’s name and details were different.

Stands failed to appear for his court date on July 11, leading to a warrant being issued for his arrest.
