Detroit Lakes, MN (trfnews.i234.me) – James William Varno, 56, of Audubon, has been charged in Becker County District Court with felony threats of violence and misdemeanor disorderly conduct.

On the evening of April 10, 2024, Varno was arrested after an Audubon police officer witnessed him yelling profanities in the street. Varno, visibly intoxicated, continued his tirade on the sidewalk until the officer intervened and arrested him for disorderly conduct.

During transport to the jail, Varno repeatedly swore at and threatened the officer. The next morning, he escalated his threats by telling a Becker County Jail staff member that he intended to kill the officer.

Varno was released on April 12 without bail under conditions prohibiting alcohol, illegal drugs, firearms, or contact with the officer. His pre-trial hearing is scheduled for August 13, with the trial set for August 29.
